IATUL/Eduserv Chest Consortium
Eduserv Chest is a service of Eduserv, a UK not-for-profit Information and Communications Technology Service Provider to education and the public sector, offering software, data and courseware negotiation services, access management systems and online information solutions since 1988. Eduserv has built a reputation for delivering high quality, leading edge services and value for money. Eduserv is a UK-registered charity.
Members of IATUL can take advantage of a number of datasets agreements negotiated by Chest. These datasets include abstracting and indexing services and full-text material including books and journals. Additionally, Eduserv Chest could make many of its software and courseware agreements available to IATUL member institutions.
Chest, on behalf of interested IATUL members, will negotiate and sign contracts and manage contracts for the lifetime of the agreement, collecting subscriptions and making payments to suppliers, in return for a management fee. IATUL members would be under no obligation to subscribe to any deal unless they chose. Typically contracts would run for 3 or 5 years, although institutions can join at any time but are committed until the end of the agreement period. Contract terms and conditions are in accordance with Eduserv Chest standard license conditions and the agreements negotiated are usually for site licences which cover use by all staff and students at an institution. Prices are fixed for the lifetime of the contract. When Chest negotiates any new agreements it will always attempt to include IATUL members as eligible institutions but cannot guarantee this. Chest will negotiate contracts specifically for IATUL where there is sufficient interest amongst members.
Many IATUL members will already be members of local, regional or national negotiating consortia, but many members may not have any such organisations that they can take advantage of. This arrangement with Eduserv Chest will therefore be of particular advantage to them.
For Eduserv Chest to be able to act on behalf of IATUL, each member of IATUL wishing to participate will need to sign the Eduserv Chest Code of Conduct (www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/conduct.html), and a named contact with each IATUL member will have to be established to facilitate communications.
More information about Eduserv Chest is available at www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/. The website includes details of all current contracts, the standard licence and contact information.
