Honorary lifetime membership awarded to Dr. Charles D. Eckman
IATUL General Assembly Nov 4, 2025 - Dr Charles D. Eckman, Dean of libraries and university librarian of the University of Miami - Otto G. Richter Library, United States, was honoured at the 45th Annual Conference of IATUL, in Shanghai, China, with the honorary lifetime membership.

The IATUL Honorary Lifetime Membership is awarded to Dr. Charles D. Eckman for serving the International Association of University Libraries with marked distinction and for his significant contributions to IATUL through his leadership and engagement.
Honorary Membership recognises individuals who have served the Association, or international librarianship, with particular distinction with the award of lifetime membership.

The award of the title took place during the General Assembly of IATUL, chaired by the President of IATUL, Kate Robinson:
"Chuck was the most thoughtful and diplomatic leader, who not only led the organisation through many challenges but courageously made several changes for the openness and growth of the organisation in the USA and beyond. As a practitioner of inclusion and an advocate for diversity he has orchestrated the association with its new values, strategy and vision. He served as Vice President, President and SIG liaison and as a mentor to many IATUL leaders."
Chuck Eckman is a longstanding member of IATUL who has served both as President (2020-2021) and as Vice-President (2019-2020 and 2022-2024).
